Imagine believing God has forgotten your people. Of the more than 7,000 languages in the world today, more than 3,000 still do not have His Word. Christians without Scripture and unbelievers alike feel left behind because God seems to belong to other nations. Heartbreakingly, thousands conclude He does not speak their language.
Even though the Great Commission is underway, we are not finished yet. Many Christ followers don’t fully understand the task Jesus gave the disciples, nor completely grasp that He has called every one of us to join in this kingdom-building work. His Word has not gone to the ends of the earth yet.
And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14, ESV
More than one billion bibleless people await discipleship tethered to eternal Truth.
Bible-reading Christ followers know not one people group is forgotten by God. Indigenous Bible translation is tangible proof our Father has not overlooked anyone, and His Word is for all who seek and knock.
If God is our Father, Jesus is our brother and also like the mother hen gathering the chicks under His wings, then He most definitely does speak all dialects. Every tribe, nation, and tongue must have the Word of God in every one of the languages He created at the tower of Babel.
“Before the translation, people in my community used to think that God was for other people, since the Bible was written in English and Zezuru. Since the coming of Bible translation, people in my community changed their thinking, and they now know that God is for everyone.” –Barwe translator, Zimbabwe
Christ mandated Christians to go into the world and announce the Gospel message of God’s kingdom. Great Commission work is not just for evangelists—Jesus’s charge is to all of us. From the woman at the well to 21st-century Christians, we are called to go and proclaim the Kingdom of God is at hand.
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18, ESV.
The wonderful news is that God has had a plan from the beginning. In Exodus 29:46 we see He has always wanted to dwell among us and He builds His kingdom through us. You are here on purpose, with a purpose. Each person is strategically placed in this big world because God has appointed every person’s time and place to live.
The Word for the World responds to God’s call by supporting indigenous Bible translation. Through expert support, training, and resource mobilization, an indigenous infrastructure is constructed, giving the local church the ability to handle all aspects of Bible translation. Working worldwide, we invest in communities, provide tools, and create processes that can be multiplied to other language groups within the region.
Looking to the future, the body of Christ has joyful motivation. Our Father provides 20/20 foresight through John’s vision of every tribe, nation, and tongue represented before the throne. Therefore, we know we will accomplish the Great Commission! From Scripture, we understand more than 7,000 language groups will receive His Word. Praise God; we know He wins, we win -- it happens. His Word will reach the ends of the earth
We just have to press onward.
There are many ways to jump in and join Great Commission work. Go, give, pray, or share the news of what God is doing today with your own tribe.
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:15-16, ESV
